My career first started when I applied for Newton Rigg College in Penrith where I enrolled in an Animal Management course. A part of the course included a module for dog grooming and it was at this point after spending many hours educating myself of different styles and techniques for various breeds, that I understood were I wanted to proceed in my career.

To additionally support my career, I engaged with a local employer which provided pet grooming services and from this, harnessed my skills over many hours, weeks, months and years. My initial role within the workplace was to carry out basic duties, this allowed me to understand how to handle a variety of breeds and what needs are to be met for each individual pet. My duties included bathing, brushing and drying.

Upon demonstrating my passion I then proceeded to enroll in a fully qualified grooming course at Newton Rigg where I was educated on all aspects of grooming, this supported me whilst I worked alongside an experienced groomer who trained me to the highest of standards. Upon becoming qualified, I have spent a further 5 years carrying out dog grooming on a wide variety of pets and this has allowed me to become fully competent in all aspects of the trade. After spending 5 years with my previous employer I felt it was time to further my experiences by applying for a lead groomer role at The Muddy Paw in Carlisle, I have now been a part of the team for nearly 5 months and it has been the best decision I have ever made.

Hello my name is Chloe,

I started my dog grooming journey at college, whilst studying my level 3 extended technical diploma in Animal Management, which included a dog grooming module, this included many hours of extensive training in grooming dogs to a high standard. Whilst doing this, I carried out many work experience hours at a local dog grooming salon where I was a volunteer grooming assistant, and this is where I first realised my strong passion and love for dog grooming. After college I went onto study at Myerscough University where I studied Zoo conservation biology and graduated.

I’ve always had a passion for all animals, and grooming is something I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed. I knew that dog grooming was an industry that I would always go back to after studying, and where I wanted to pursue a successful career in.  Therefore, I decided to apply for the dog grooming assistant role at The Muddy Paw Carlisle, I’ve now been working at the salon since February, working in a small team and I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made.

I am always eager to learn new things and develop and expand my skills within the dog grooming industry. My key focuses for the near future is to work up to being a professional dog groomer by carrying out different courses and gaining a level 3 qualification in dog grooming.
